New set photos from The Flash season 9 revealed the first look at Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen. With Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, and Stargirl canceled, the CW only has two Arrowverse dramas this year. The last remaining Earth-Prime series is getting ready to premiere as The Flash season 9 is less than a month away. The Flash season 9 has 13 episodes left to tell Barry Allen’s story before everything is said and done.
One of the most hyped-up episodes for The Flash’s final season 9 is episode 9, which is currently filming. The CW confirmed Amell’s Green Arrow is set to return to the franchise in this installment. While The CW is keeping details under wraps about how Oliver returns, new set photos from Candagraphs have given a first look at Amell back on The Flash set. The pictures see Amell and Grant Gustin in his Barry Allen attire. Check out the images below:
How The Flash Season 9 Will Explain Oliver Queen’s Return
Episode 9 is being set up to be one of the most crucial episodes of The Flash season 9. Not only will Amell return as his infamous Arrow character, but additional Arrowverse alums are also returning. Episode 9, directed by Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow), will also see the return of Arrow’s David Ramsey, who plays John Diggle. The Flash’s Keiynan Lonsdale and Sendhil Ramamurthy will also appear in the episode as Kid Flash and Bloodwork, respectively.
While Kid Flash, Diggle, and Bloodwork have more natural ways of showing up, Oliver’s re-emergence is the biggest mystery. Given that the Emerald Archer died in Crisis on Infinite Earths, his return is much more intriguing because of the circumstances. What is likely going to be the cause of his return is what was set up in the Arrowverse tie-in comic, Earth-Prime. Towards the end of the comic, Oliver re-emerged as the Spectre, warning that the heroes must be ready for something. Since Earth-Prime is canon to the franchise, that will likely be how The Flash season 9 explains Amell’s return in episode 9.
Since The Flash season 9 premieres next month, it will be a while until episode 9 airs on The CW. That means fans will have to wait until a more official first look is revealed at Amell’s Arrowverse return. But either way, it will be exciting to see Amell show up as The Flash season 9 gets ready to end the series. Given that Barry got his Arrowverse star in Arrow season 2, this feels like a full-circle moment for the DC hero. It will also likely be very emotional for fans hoping to see Amell return in The Flash season 9. With less than a month to go, The Flash season 9 is close to starting Barry’s final run.
