New Lord Of The Rings Movies Addressed By Amazon Studios Boss

Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke addresses the recent surprise announcement that new Lord of the Rings movies are in development at Warner Bros.
With new The Lord of the Rings movies revealed to be in development at Warner Bros., Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke shares her thoughts regarding the news. Based on the acclaimed novels by author J.R.R. Tolkien, Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy was a major hit critically and commercially in the early 2000s. After Jackson’s more divisive The Hobbit trilogy in the 2010s, the world of Middle-earth recently returned in the form of Amazon’s The Rings of Power, which represented a major investment for the company and is expected to run for 5 seasons.
Now, with multiple new The Lord of the Rings movies confirmed to be in the works from New Line Entertainment and Middle-earth Enterprises, Salke shared her response to the news to Variety. The Amazon Studios executive doesn’t seem fazed by the announcement and ultimately affirms the company’s commitment to The Rings of Power. Check out Salke’s full comment below when asked how much Lord of the Rings content will be too much for the market:
“We’ll see. We love our original series. We’re extremely proud of it, and invested long term. So, we definitely think there’s enough fan love to sustain ours for a long time.”
Could The New LOTR Movies Affect The Rings of Power?
The Hobbit trilogy was financially successful but failed to earn the same level of critical acclaim as Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings movies. With The Rings of Power, Amazon sought to recapture the magic of Middle-earth, telling a new set of stories during a drastically different time period. Prime Video’s The Rings of Power was mostly warmly received by critics but was more divisive among general audiences.
While it’s still unclear what exactly the new Lord of the Rings movies will be about, it is possible that Prime Video’s show will take a viewership hit. After all, the show will no longer be the only source of Middle-earth content available to viewers. That being said, the new Lord of the Rings movies will likely be very different from The Rings of Power and set in a different time period with different characters, potentially meaning the two could coexist or even complement each other, in a way.
Those who enjoy The Rings of Power likely won’t be abandoning the show with the arrival of the new movies, and it’s very likely that Salke’s sentiment will ring true. The world of Middle-earth is so vast and the passion for Tolkien’s work is so strong that there’s probably enough love to go around between the new movies and the show. While it remains to be seen how the new The Lord of the Rings movies will actually turn out, it’s evidently an exciting time for the beloved franchise.
